Lavender and colorful Salvia are beautifully contrasted by the unusual texture and silvery-white spheres of ‘Star Frost’. Not fussy about soil type, it just needs good drainage and a sunny spot for best performance. Requiring water while it’s growing, it is drought tolerant the rest of the year. Pollinators love this plant – and don’t forget cut flowers! Fresh or dried they are lovely additions to the flower vase. For dried flowers, cut them before they open and dry upside down. For fresh flowers, harvest when blossoms are halfway open. Be sure to leave some standing for birds and winter interest. Fun fact: The name Echinops comes from two Greek words meaning ‘hedgehog appearance.’
